Where To Begin…
I never had a desire to detail cars. I wanted to be a mechanic. Not just any mechanic but one that can come to you.
I was inspired by my father who ran a mobile business called “Oil Express Man on Wheel” Slogan “Relax I’ll come to you”. Him and I would go out and place flyers in people’s windshield wiper blades as a marketing technique. It worked. One of his biggest clients was Network Plus and we would go service their vehicles here in Topeka and in Manhattan Kansas. He didn’t have a van. Or a truck. We did these jobs in a 1993 Ford Probe loaded with ramps, Oil catches and other tools needed to do the job. He would do the oil changes, and I vacuumed the insides with a very small weak vacuum. Then we’d take them to the near by car wash and bring them back. So, I guess you can say my first time detailing was with my father back then.
I took that same idea and named it J Express. Jimerson Express. I did oil changes, alternators amongst other things I knew how to do and of course did a quick vacuum and took it to the near by car wash.
Fast forward to 2021 I was working at US Foods and my brother in law called me and really needed some help detailing cars out in Leawood Kansas. BJ Premium Mobile Detailing because he was weeks backed up. Only thing was he needed me full time and I was nervus about quitting my active paying job and my wife was skeptical. I went with my gut and took the plunge. Quit my job and started working with him.
I’d drive from Topeka to Leawood and stay with him and my sister then go back home. Him and I would ride together in his truck with a trailer attached or I’d follow in my 06 Lincoln LS V8 Sport. Loved that car. I ended up trading it in for a 2013 Silverado LT Z71
Bought some equipment, a trailer and was rolling.
At some point I started doing details for friends in Topeka and Lawrence.
I didn’t have a name yet—but I had a Facebook page open still. Jimerson Express. Eventually I came up with a name. Dropped the Express and added Mobile Detailing. I didn’t place fliers like my father did. I went a different route.. It was an immediate success. Word spread around quickly. Got my trailer fitted with my official company logo. Business Exploded!
It’s truly amazing how my career paths changed. One minute I wanted to be a mechanic, music producer and the next I’m detailing cars. 5 years later I’m still in the game.
